Berwick Downtown Community Mural

The Berwick Downtown Community Mural was a project lead by Berwick Art Association, organized chiefly by myself. The goal of the project was to: A) Paint a large portion of the wall of a closed tannery in downtown Berwick, ME. B) Engage the locals in downtown activation. C) Get artists, residents, and community members to creatively collaborate on a large scale.

The result was a year long project that involved engaging the community, getting permission of the property owners, designing a mural that could be broken into large colored blocks, fundraising, marketing the public invitation days, and streamlining the admittedly very complex project into something simple enough for children to work on.
My initial sketch of the mural. Initially, we weren't confident we could get enough of the same color paint, so my concept has many colors just in case we couldn't.
The first design by Erin Duquette (above) was too busy geometrically, and people didn't understand the sheep. The below design is her landscape, with a more lively color palette.
Below is how we broke up each of the blocks by color. Everyone who signed up (beforehand online, or in person) was given a sheet, and then brought that sheet to the paint station for the colors in their block.
